Red Wine & Chocolate- Love is in the Air~

Wine Tasting
Wine Tasting

As  we fast approach February, the second month in the New Year- it is our sincere hope that everyone is having a Winederful start to 2010!!!

February is a great month for Wine and Romance.  It’s the time to express your love for one another and enhance your love for wine.  A time to pair great red wines with great chocolates.

At Siloam Retreat & Wine Shop in scenic Seabeck, Washington; we are trying to put together an inaugural night of Red Wine, Chocolate, and Tango.  We have attended a night of Tango before and found that it was just as imagined very romantic; watching the Tango instructors glide across the floor not as two bodies but one and then the quick split to two and back to one…….daring to imagine that perhaps we could be so graceful.

Then our turn……not so much, but it was fun we met some great people, shared some wine and a fantastic night.  We are in the process of putting this together, recruiting dancers and getting the shop ready.

There are several other Red Wine & Chocolate events we would recommend and just a note the difference between an event at Siloam Retreat & Wine Shop versus any other Wine Tasting Events is that the other tasting room events will be packed; open to the public and as we commonly refer to these type of events will resemble “Combat Tasting” you’ll be lucky if you can get up to the tasting bar and if you get any information about the wines you are drinking.  That being said the events can be fun if you like to go wine tasting with hundreds of other people.

At Siloam Retreat & Wine Shop our events are private, more intimate and extravagant created just for you and your group- limited in size and oodles of personal attention from the Innkeepers, Owners and Wine Consultants.  There really is not comparison to the two types of wine tastings.

It’s a Beautiful Day to be at Siloam Retreat

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, Puget Sound Region you may be asking yourself what month it is.  It is January, right?  It was another unseasonable warm day; the sun was shinning, there’s a hue change in the landscape.

It’s exciting, it makes you want to go out and buy plants, soil and get busy in the garden.  It makes you want to gather with family, friends and co-workers for some yard games, food on the grill, wine tasting of course!!  Yet, that is probably jumping it just a little.

You know how when it snows and the snow melt is commonly referred to as ‘the thaw’?  Around here this time of year is referred to as the ‘dry out’ we have had so much rain; everything, especially the lawn is soaking wet- this will take some time to dry out.  Meanwhile we will step into our ‘muckers’ (shoes you wear in the rain and mud) and head out to get into the garden.

It should be the perfect conditions for thinning out some noxious weeds then when we do dry out and come into the blooming season; it will be that much more lovely.  Won’t you come by for a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery here at Siloam?  We are located in the beautiful Seabeck area where we are known for our breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains, the no stop light town, it’s worth the trip- less than 2 hours from Seattle, Washington.  If you’re coming from the Seattle area, hop on the ferry:  http://wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/ we are less than 20 minutes from the revitalized Bremerton and Naval Base Kitsap.

Siloam Retreat & Wine Shop, a destination location- make it a day trip or a get-away and stay.  Allow us to make your trip everything you expected and more……….

Garden Wine Events – Early Spring

Buds and Blooms are happening before our very eyes here at Siloam Retreat in scenic Seabeck, Washington.

This week in my Master Gardener Class we learned all about plant propagation; very interesting.  The garden and main lawn area at Siloam Retreat is abundant with plant life; we will now be able to identify various plants, salvage, care, and propagate for the garden.

The National Weather Service offers a climate prediction center:  http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/ and it seems we are in for an enhanced likelihood of higher than normal temperatures and higher than usual chances of precipitation- which to me says:  “Early Spring”

Last year we hosted several Private Wine Tastings on the back patio and on the main lawn, we also had a Wine & Romance Event, a Cooking Demonstration and other fun, relaxing activities.

The Private Wine Shop has turned out to be just what we wanted a warm, comfortable, functional space to host events and gather with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc…..all of our guests and visitors to date have shared positive comments about our private event space.  Some comments:

“It’s just a cool party house!!”

“Everything we need is right here to host our reunion”

“The Private Wine Tasting adds a nice touch and you can really learn a lot about wine in this comfortable, personalized, and individual attention environment.”

The best comment and compliment we have had is that people tell us they will tell others.  It is a blessing to us as Innkeepers to know that we have created a Retreat, right here in Seabeck that will be shared and enjoyed by many.

Warm Up – Private Wine Tasting

This has been a very warm January, the average temp in the Seattle area has been 47.9 degrees; it’s difficult to enjoy that fact, it seems to come with the fret of a mid-winter frost.  We have already seen honey bees and other insects not common for this time of year, bulbs are coming up, trees are budding and the vines will soon to have sap running and a bud break in early, early spring.  Early Spring is exciting, one of the nice things about living in the Pacific Northwest is the change of seasons.

This year will mark the first year at Siloam with the Wine Shop available for use.  We anticpate a busy season of events and Private Wine Tastings.  Tonight we are hosting a Private Wine Tasting with a Sneak Peek at the Wine Shop.

We have put together some before and after pictures of our renovation; it’s a proud moment for us to share that with family, friends, and strangers who will become friends.  We have posted several photos of the Wine Shop in progress, thanks for allowing us to share.
